Thank you for your interest in the LCNI Evaluation, Maggie. Your concerns over insufficient time and scheduling difficulties due to the late release of funding have been identified in our research as an issue that is negatively impacting organizations' experience with the Late Career Nurse Initiative. The NHSRU will continue to provide participant feedback to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care throughout the evaluation, with the ultimate goal of advising the Ministry on how it can improve both the efficacy of the Initiative and the experience of participating organizations. We have been in the fortunate position of being able to present our early findings directly to the Ministry and they are well aware of this issue in particular.

I am unsure of how to best address your question regarding a forum as we are primarily a research organization. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care includes the Office of the Provincial Chief Nursing Officer phone number as 416-327-9689, this might be an avenue to have your concerns addressed. As another venue in which to voice your concerns, I would also strongly encourage participation in the NHSRU's evaluation of the LCNI. If you are not sure if your site is participating in our study or you have additional questions about the evaluation, you are welcome to contact me at autumn.chilcote@utoronto.ca or (416)946-7154. Your insight and perspective are of tremendous value to us, thank you again Maggie.

Is there currently any thought being given to changing the LCI process?

Applications are required quickly, with the purpose of having 6 months to work on projects, then funding is not assured until much later, usually with many calls to the secretariat to enquire about the status of the submission, which most often leaves a few weeks to actually run projects unless there is an appetite to start on time and risk not getting funding to recoup replacement costs.

Why can there not be a predictable cycle, with assured timelines for accepting/declining a proposal, then at least 6 months (ideally 1 year) to actually have staff engaged.

Is there a forum for us to come together to influence the process and the decision makers?
