Dr. McGillis Hall is a Professor and the Associate Dean of Research & External Relations in the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto. She is a recognized leader in nursing health services and systems research and is the first Canadian nurse to be inducted as an American Academy of Nursing International Fellow (2007). She was the inaugural recipient of the Canadian Nurses Association Order of Merit for Nursing Research in Canada (2008).
Dr. McGillis Hall is the recent recipient of a Nursing Senior Career Research Award from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in Canada (2009-2012) in the area of Workforce and Work Environments. Her research has also earned her a CIHR New Investigator Award (2002-2007), and a Premier’s Research Excellence Award from the Government of Ontario (2003-2008). She is a co-investigator with the Nursing Health Services Research Unit. Dr. McGillis Hall has been invited to confer with researchers, policy leaders and decision-makers internationally related to her research, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Spain and the United States. She has extensive experience working with policy leaders in Canada in the area of nursing health human resources and patient safety outcomes, including Health Canada, the Canadian Nurses Association, and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
Prior to joining the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, she completed a Medical Research Council (MRC) Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. She has developed a research program focusing on health human resources, the nursing work environment and how this influences nurse migration and nurse’s health, and patient safety outcomes of nursing practice.
