Ann Tourangeau, RN, PhD

Co-Investigator, University of Toronto

Ann Tourangeau is an Associate Professor and Graduate Chair with the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing and an Adjunct Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences. Her program of research encompasses understanding determinants of outcomes related to organizational and patient safety such as nurse retention and hospital mortality rates. Utilization of her research findings are of particular interest to health care administrators and leaders as well as health policy makers. To understand determinants of outcomes, Ann incorporates data from large administrative and clinical databases to answer questions related to the contribution that nursing care and nursing work environments make to these patient and organizational outcomes. She also uses survey methods to collect primary data, particularly related to nurse work environments. Ann has expertise in risk adjustment methods used in outcomes research to account for differences in patient characteristics across units of analysis used in a study.
